A classic "Can I get in" scenario. As a senior I applied to a few schools, none of them Ivy League (as I figured my chances were slim), but I did end up getting into Univ of IL at Urbana-Champaign (which was ranked 5th for my degree), but am currently attending Michigan Tech Univ (they gave me a lot of money). I am currently double majoring in Computer Science and Discrete Mathematics. Academics: High School GPA: 3.877 ACT Comp: 27 SAT: 1820 Sports: In high school I participated in 4 sports. However in college I am currently only running Cross Country and Track, although I am a less than average runner in a Division 2 school (run a 2:02 800meter and 4:33 1600meter) Do intermurals count? Ethnicity: (heres why I feel I have a chance) Native American/Alaskan Native Enrolled in 3 tribes Am going to attend AISES program (American Indian Science and Engineering Society) The schools I was thinking about applying to were Cornell University and Carnegie Mellon University, as CMU was ranked first in CS degrees and Cornel was 5th, as well as both of them are not EXTREMELY selective like some other top tier schools (18% for Cornell and 33% for CMU). I believe I have a chance because I am involved in various sports, am ethnic and participate in ethnic activities and have an alright background for academics, but I wanted other opinions supported by some reason. If I could get an answer on whether this is plausible or if there are better schools I could be applying to, that would be great! Also, should I retake my ACT and SAT tests, as those were my first tries my Junior year, in which I did not study and I know I could do better now. If I can't get in with what I have shown here, what else CAN I do to better my chances. Thank you for any input! Note: I intend to get a 4.0 this semester (haven't studied this intensely in my entire life)... Read More »
